LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM

HACKNEY looks set to become London's latest luxury shopping destination, as local authorities plan to build a "fashion hub" similar to Oxfordshire shopping centre Bicester Village. The retail spot will be located near Burberry's factory outlet at Chatham Place, close to Hackney Central overground station. Pringle will open a new store next to Burberry taking over The Duke of Wellington pub on Morning Lane, while the opposite derelict railways arches - owned by Manhattan Loft Corporation - will be transformed into retail spaces, cafés and restaurants. Hackney Council has £5 million to spend on the development, creating 200 jobs for local people, The Financial Times reports. The project aims to capitalise on the bus-loads of Asian tourists who travel to Burberry's East End premises, but leave as soon as they finish shopping at the store. The East End is already the site of many British designers' studios - including Christopher Kane,Giles Deacon and JW Anderson.
